    Twitter monitors Trump

  • The mayor’s conversation came after a speech by US President Donald Trump, in which he blamed the violence for a “lack of leadership” in Minneapolis, and threatened to send the National Guard “to complete the mission in a correct way,” if Fry fails to establish the system.

  • Usually, National Guard officers order the state authorities, but they can be placed under the authority of the federal authority in an emergency.

  • President Trump added in a tweet: "If (the state) faces any difficulty, we will intervene to impose control. When the looting begins, the bullets start." The White House Twitter account retweeted the post.

  • White House spokeswoman Kylie McKinney said President Trump "was very disturbed" when he saw the video tape showing Floyd's death.

  • But Twitter accused Trump of glorifying violence, and placed a notice about "glorifying violence" on his tweets, saying it "violates our policy on glorifying violence, based on the historical context of the last part of the post, his link to violence, and the risk it includes to inspire similar actions."

  • The historical context in question is the 1968 Miami riots. At that time, angry protests flared, after the Miami police chief used the term "looting," according to a federal commission.

  • Earlier, Minnesota Governor Tim Walz moved the state's National Guard, at the request of the mayor of Minneapolis and the mayor of the neighboring city of St. Paul, declaring a "peacetime emergency".
